A major organizational change took place in januari 2010 when supervision of social services was integrated with supervision of health care services at the National Board of Health and Welfare.

The National Board of Health and Welfare is an independent authority. The Ministery of Health and Social Affairs finances and regulates the work of the Board.

The National Board of Health and Welfare supervises the prescribtion and handling. The production and use i supervised by an another authority: Medical Products Agengy.

The supervision is based on:

·         Reports from health care services according to law

·         Complaints from patients, relatives, the public

·         Own initiatives

·         Risk evaluation of experiences from previous supervisory activities

·         Directions from the government

       The supervision is mainly performed by:          

·         Announced visits

·         Unannounced visits

·         Inspection of documentation/charts

6.    INTERESTING ONGOING DEVELOPMENTS IN YOUR COUNTRY/REGION

Complaints about health care services  from patients and next of kin, which were sent to Medical Responsibility Board before, are adressed to the National Board of Health and Welfare due to an alteration of act  from the 1st of januari 2011.
